In this moving and characteristically honest dharma talk from our recent Contemplative Care Retreat, Chodo Sensei explores the paramita (pali word for "virtue" or "perfection") of Sīla—ethical conduct and moral discipline.

Through stories of recovery, moments of doubt, spiritual friendship, and the Verse of Atonement, Chodo reminds us that the path of practice is not about perfection, but about presence, accountability, and the courage to begin again—moment by moment.

Together with the sangha, he asks: How do we clean up our lives when we fall out of alignment with our values?

What does it mean to live the precepts, not as rules, but as invitations to wholeness?

And how can the next daffodil—or the broken teacup we once shattered—be a doorway into liberation?
